About the Team

Champion athletes aren’t just born - they’re selected, trained, moulded and tested. Since 2001, we’ve been a competitive force in Egypt. We hone raw talent to maturity with quality coaching, intense workouts and a true love of the sport. Teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship - those are the hallmarks foundations of Alexandria Rugby.


The club was formed in the year 2001, founded by Mr. Joseph Al-Raghey, owner of Pharaoh Gold Mines Company. Since then, he is the primary financial sponsor of the club and his outstanding efforts are the main reason for the continuity and  drastic improvement of the club's performance throughout the years, which empowers rugby in Egypt as a whole.In 2008, the first women’s rugby team was established in Alexandria, this was momentous as it was the first women’s team to join the sport in Egypt.


  • The club's key objective is to promote Rugby in Egypt, Alexandria specifically, but also to promote Egyptian Rugby Internationally. We are always delighted to have new sponsors participate in our activities and become a part of rugby development in Egypt.


  • In 2003 and 2004, the team started to play playing 15s matches against Cairo Rugby Club- being the only competitors in Egypt at that time.

  • In 2005, the team joined Cairo's International Rugby 10s Tournament.

  • In 2006, the team re-joined the tournament ranking 1st with resounding wins against all the participating teams.

  • In 2007, the club expanded its efforts to:

    • Participate in several international tournaments including: Dubai 7s and Syria 7s Tournaments.

    • The team participated in Beirut International Rugby 7s tournament, with an outstanding performance ranking 2nd in the Tournament.

    • Organise its first Alexandria International Rugby 10s Tournament which took place at the University Stadium in Alexandria city and ranked 1st amongst the participating teams from different countries including: Syria, Libya, and the AUC Team from Egypt.

  • In 2008, the club:

    • The team participated again in Syria International Rugby 7s Tournament.

    • The team organised its second Alexandria International Rugby 10s Tournament where the new guests of the tournament, Fiji, ranked 1st and Alexandria ranked 2nd overall.

  • In 2009, the club participated in the Beirut International Rugby 10s Tournament.

  • In 2010, the club:

    • Participated in the newly established Egyptian Rugby Union League due to the growth of rugby and appearance of new teams in Egypt.

    • Organised its third Alexandria International Rugby 10s Tournament.

    • Participated in Tunisia International Rugby 15s Tournament.

  • In 2011 and 2012, the club's main focus was to dominate
    the Egyptian Rugby Union League. Moreover, the team had their first appearance at the Nigeria International Rugby 7s Tournament.

  • In 2013, the club:

    • Dominated the Egyptian Rugby Union League.

    • Participated in the Tunisia International Rugby 15s Tournament.

  • In 2014, the club:

    • Participated in the Dubai 7s International Competition.

    • Won the First Egyptian Rugby Union Cup.

  • In 2015, the club:

    • Participated in the Dubai 7s International Competition. The team's title was "runners-up‟ ranking 2nd in the International Social Division (Plate).

  • in 2016, the club:

    • Won both Egyptian League and Cup Tournaments

    • Participated in the Dubai 7s International Competition

  • in 2017, the club: 

    • Won both Egyptian League and Cup Tournaments

    • Participated in Tunisia International Rugby 15s Tournament.

  • in 2018, the club:

    • Won both Egyptian League and Cup Tournaments

    • Completed a Summer Camp in Milan Italy, winning 2 of 3 Friendly Matches against local teams.

  • in 2019/2020, the club:

    • Placed Second in the League (Cup Cancelled due to Corona)

    • Completed a Summer Camp in Milan, Italy, winning 2 of 3 Friendly Matches against local teams​.
